Agriturismi are rural hotels that derive part of their income from agriculture. Usually they are old farmhouses restored in the original style where they now rent out rooms. In the kitchen they use only local, whether organic or not, and their own products.
All agriturismi meet our criteria: hospitality, rustic surroundings, good food, child-friendliness, a good atmosphere and possibly a swimming pool.
During the summer months, Altratoscana has its own tents at several agriturismi. Spending the night in a tent under the stars enhances the experience of nature and tranquility. Children find it quite an adventure! The tents are spacious, white tipis that appeal to the imagination. They are always in a shady place, near the pool and bathroom. They can sleep up to 8 people. There is electricity, lighting and also bed linen and towels are provided just like in a room of the agriturismo.
The vacations are half board so breakfast and dinner are included in the price. Sometimes there is a real “room service”: breakfast and dinner are brought to your tent or apartment in baskets. At others, meals are served at the agriturismo's restaurant.
Breakfast is extensive: bread, rusks, cookies, coffee or cappuccino, tea and fruit juice. Many also offer homemade jams, honey, cakes, cookies, cheeses and ham. In Italian style, dinner usually consists of four courses: antipasto (appetizer), primo (pasta), secondo (meat and vegetables) and dessert. All dishes are typically Tuscan and prepared with local produce. Usually the wine, olive oil, meat and vegetables are from our own farm. If desired, vegetarian can be cooked and for the children there is a special menu with what they like.
