Everyone knows the image of Tuscany: an avenue of cypress trees leading to a lonely farmhouse, rolling hills in soft shades of green and gold, villages in warm natural stone. But Tuscany is so much more. In the south of the region lies a surprising and barely discovered natural area, where oak forests turn into dense maquis, where waterfalls are hidden among rocks and where old mines, forgotten railroad bridges and historic thermal baths recall a rich past. These places really do exist - you just need to know where they are.
I am Tinne and have lived in Tuscany for many years. I know the area around Pomarance like the back of my hand. In 2015, after a career in the corporate world, I decided to follow my heart and focus entirely on my passion for hiking and nature experience. Thus was born Altratoscana, a small-scale travel agency specializing in ecological hiking vacations in southern Tuscany. Together with people from the area, who were born and raised here, I work on trips that are organized authentically, personally and with care for the environment.
Our trips start from a love of nature and landscape. Sustainability, small scale, tranquility and child-friendliness are at the heart of what we do. Thanks to our in-depth knowledge of the region, we guide you along the most beautiful and special places, away from crowds and well-trodden paths.
The accommodations we select are built with respect for nature and fit harmoniously into the local architecture. Children have fun in the pool or with the donkeys and other farm animals, while parents enjoy the tranquility and the view. The agriturismi cook with local products; some work exclusively with their own harvest or even produce their own organic wine. Everything exudes authenticity and simplicity.
Each hiking trip can be customized to your needs. An extra rest day, shorter stages for young children or specific preferences in comfort or experience are easy to plan.
